How to Reset a Skoda Key
Just received a notification from my infotainment system to say that the battery in the key is low and requires replacement. This isn't the first time, and last time I went to an auto dealer they replaced the battery for free in two minutes and said it will work again.
Switch on the ignition and secure the vehicle mechanically. Press the unlock button on the remote control five times in 1 second intervals. A short horn tone will be heard.
EEPROM Method
If your car key stops working, it can take some time for a professional to reprogramme it. In many cases the EEPROM is read to find the unique code of the car. This is a risky process since there's a great chance that the information stored in the module will be damaged. This is the reason it's best to trust an expert locksmith.
An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is utilized in a broad range of electronic devices including car keys. It stores information, including the unique encryption keys or authentication codes that are recognized by your car when you use the key to unlock it or start it. These codes are crucial because they let the car know that you've got the correct key and are authorised to drive it.
If your EEPROM is corrupted, the keys will stop working. The issue is caused by pressing the wrong key or accidentally hitting the wrong key. It is possible to reset the key by using a special tool. However, this method may not work. It is recommended to employ a professional who has extensive experience in automotive key programming.
To reset your EEPROM you must first remove the Kessy module from the vehicle. It is located over the accelerator pedal located on the left side of the car. Remove skoda new key that holds it in place with a screwdriver. Then, disconnect the electrical connectors. Pull it out. You can then read the EEPROM using a SOIC8 or micro pincers connected to a programmer. Once you have all the data, you can save the file and then write it back into the EEPROM.
You can use a program such as PonyProg to read the EEPROM data. Click on Read Device. The EEPROM dump appears as a hexadecimal array of characters. There are three notable values in hex including the KEY_CODE key_count, and the V_ARG_ENABLED. To "virginize", the chip, you must change all other hex values from the number 00. Once you do this, you can flash the chip to restore its functionality.
Ignition Method
This method involves activating the car's system using a second key. It's not applicable to all cars however it will be able to reset the key fob if it's not functioning properly or the battery is dying. It should work if you have tried pressing the buttons repeatedly (people often attempt to press the unlock button repeatedly).
To apply this method, turn on the ignition and then leave it on. Then, mechanically lock the car's drivers door by using a different key. Then, place the key fob in the lock position and point it to the transmission transmitter located on the front side of the vehicle, above the mirror. Press the unlock button for several seconds. The horn will sound and the key fob should begin working.
If the skoda keys don't work it could be because the transmitter inside has been damaged or out of sync with the vehicle's theft-deterrent system. If this is the case, it will need to be reprogrammed. A locksmith or technician can help you with this.
If the key fob isn't working after reprogramming it, it may be that the car has "forgotten" the key (if the car hasn't been used for 6 months). It is still possible to try a resync procedure in the user's manual - remove the door lock for the driver's cap and lock, then open the car with that key. If it doesn't, you'll need to visit the dealer. This is usually the case with keys that are not working and is less than two minutes.
Keyless Entry Method
The new generation of keyless entry systems - like the type that is used in modern OCTAVIA as well as electric ENYAQ iV cars - features an innovative security feature that blocks thieves from "signal extension". The car transmits an alert and the key has to respond within a specified time. If the key does not reply, the vehicle cannot be unlocked and starts to sound alarms.
The car can also detect the key is near by by using a sensor in the door handle. The sensor sends an alert to the key's internal coil which then responds by returning an indication to the sensor. If the sensor detects this, the car is able to unlock itself and may switch on the interior lights if set to do so.
Even the older keyless entry systems have an traditional backup. If the remote isn't working, you can still manually open the driver door. This can be done by sliding the blade or, in some models, by pressing a button in the pocket. This is particularly useful if you've lost your key or the battery has died.
Remote Control Method
If you've recently purchased a remote control and it isn't working in your vehicle, the seller might not have programmed it to match your vehicle. It could also be because the battery terminals are loose (look for this, they could appear a bit loose to the touch and sometimes soldered in place) It is important to carefully solder them back into place will return your key fob to working order. If you're unsure about this kind of repair, consult a professional auto elect technician.
Switch ignition OFF, and then lock the vehicle from the inside using a second key that is not matched (this resets the memory position 1). Enter channel "01". (Can be channel "21" on certain Audi models.) Insert the new keyfob in the driver's door and hit the unlock button twice in less than 5 seconds.

Repeat this process for up to four additional remotes. Make sure to switch off the ignition between programming each remote. You should hear a chime each time you successfully code the remote.
